Jazz Vocals

Vocals have been an important part of jazz through its entire history. In the early days of jazz many of the vocalists came from or were strongly influenced by blues. "Scat" singing is a vocal technique in which the singer improvises without words in a style similar to instrumentalists. Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald are two of the most famous scat singers. Other representative artists include Billy Holiday, Billy Eckstein, Mel Torme, George Benson, and Al Jarreau.
