The archive
Pages made by ListenSmart.com artists and members, recovered from the Internet Archive. The original text is preserved; links and layout are adapted for this restoration.
In 2000 and 2001 ListenSmart.com built its artist, song and member pages from a database, and its bulletin boards ran on separate Perl software (Ultimate Bulletin Board). None of that runs any more. What survives is what the Wayback Machine captured, and that is what you see here: the original text, unedited, in an adapted layout. Only the parts that needed the database are switched off. Forms, buttons, login, posting, voting, play and download links are plain text now, and old scripts are removed. Audio files were not recovered for this archive.
Most captures are from 2000 and 2001. Some are from 2003–04, after the company had shut down, when the address carried a copy of the site under different management; those pages show their capture date. See the timeline.
The archive holds part of the original community, not all of it. By the site’s own count in 2001 there were 1,000+ registered artists, 3,000+ members and 25,000+ bulletin-board posts. The Wayback Machine kept 493 artist pages, 986 song pages, 367 member pages and 3,385 forum posts in 369 threads.
Each page links to its Wayback Machine source. To ask for a page to be removed, email seanfenlon@yahoo.com with the page address.
