Traditional Bluegrass

Bill Monroe and his group the - Blue Grass Boys - invented traditional bluegrass in the 1940s. It was initially created in an attempt to keep country music connected to its roots. Monroe stuck to the traditional country format of string instruments and raised the tempos of the music to make it very technically difficult. Other important traditionalists are banjo players Earl Scruggs and Ralph Stanley. Today, some of the music of Alison Krauss and Union Station fits in the traditional genre.
