Most solo pieces for percussion instruments are written for those which can produce a definite pitch -- the marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, and glockenspiel. The entire repertoire has been composed in the twentieth century. Evelyn Glennie has made a major impact as a soloist in the 1990s.
