Solo Guitar

The guitar is both a melodic and harmonic instrument and therefore is able to stand on its own very well as a solo instrument. Historically the guitar has been very important in Latin cultures and as a result, much of the classical repertoire for solo guitar is by composers from Spain and other Spanish speaking countries. Andrés Segovia (1893-1987) has done the most to bring the instrument fame in the classical world. He selected works for other instruments by great composers like Bach and Mozart, and arranged them for the guitar. He also commissioned pieces by significant composers in the twentieth century.
