A 20th century music associated with Buenos Aires, Argentina, the tango began as music to accompany silent films. Since the 1970s, the tango has been important as dance music, while in earlier decades there were tango orchestras and sung tangos. Argentina not only has a television channel dedicated to the tango, but there is also the University of the Tango of Buenos Aires, established in 1991.
