Cuarteto is a genre of dance music from Córdoba, Argentina. It is thought that 20,000 people dance to the Cuarteto (quartet music) every weekend in Córdoba. The Cuarteto consists of the violin, accordion, string bass and piano and was invented in 1943. The underlying rhythmic and chordal pattern of the cuarteto is the tunga-tunga in which the right hand of the piano plays chords on the offbeats.
