This style uses more of an African heritage theme and appearance with the music. The Performers usually have long dreadlocks. The women performers here usually have their hair in what is called a natural or Afro. The Afro is not like the huge Afros worn in the 70's. They are a lot shorter. The alternative fashion is not consumed with name brands or being commercial. Their appearance and music is meant to send a conscious message to the culture. Wyclef Jean from the Fugees and the group Arrested Development personify the alternative hip-hop look.
