Welcome to the world of the rotting hare,
Alice woke up to a chemichal nightmare,
the Duchess and the Queen hide the Knave of Tarts
as the World goes to war over radioactive tarts
Welcome to the world of the Nightmare Age,
politics and passion take the center stage
poverty and sickness right behind the door,
and it doesn't really matter who you're voting for
it's a Nightmare Age
Nightmare Age it's the master plan,
as you buy your dreams from a chemichal salesman,
living is illusion but the pain is the same,
nothing makes sense when you live in a chess game.
Nightmare Age now you're up to bat,
as you play croquet with the Cheshire Cat,
he's got money and he's got style
as he disappears behind a beautiful smile.
And it's a Nightmare Age
Nightmare Age it's election year,
time for money and plastic cheer,
kiss the babies, make them cry,
take your places, lie, lie, lie.
Hide behind the flag it'll get you the vote,
don't say a lot of things that'll rock the boat,
don't make promises, avoid the fight,
and everybody votes for the classier soundbyte.

It's pretty frightening, I know. Essentially I took the drum and bass line from the re-recorded version of Nightmare Age and added two or three blues and country-ish guitar loops. It's scary how well it turned out. |

I've heard this in it's original form, which was a punk meets roots rock tune. When BDR started playing with Acid (the software, not the drug) this permutation was what he came up with. And it is good. There is a sense of irony and quiet immediacy that is expected in punk but not always in quieter songs such as this.
But it's there and in some ways more disquieting.
Not only is this a good tune but it's a good stepping stone to more BDR work which is several steps more agressive but every bit as musical.
