| | From : | | • Fort Collins | | Musical Style : | | • Jupiter’s Thigh has dubbed their brand of sprawling, lyric-intensive Indie rock music "Literary Rock," which may or may not be an oxymoron but which accurately desribes JT's style and sensibility. They move effortlessly between rock, pop, punk, funk, metal, folk, jazz, blues & country, sometimes within a single song. Intelligent, literate lyrical content is the thread which runs through all their diverse musical explorations. JT has been compared to bands such as Concrete Blonde, Pretenders, Blondie and The Breeders, but they defy easy classifications or comparisons, as the totality of their musical catalog bears resemblance to nearly everyone, yet no one in particular.
| | Musical Influences : | | • Jupiter's Thigh has been influenced by many artists, including Bob Dylan, Rush, Garbage, Richard Thompson, Concrete Blonde, The Pixies, Velvet Underground, Throwing Muses, Grant Lee Buffalo, Dixie Dregs, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey and Radiohead. They also draw liberally from classic and contemporary literature, art and film, and incorporate these influences in their music in strange and original ways.
| | Brief Description : | | • Jupiter's Thigh is an eclectic and unique alternative rock band from Colorado, known for their explosive live performances as well as the breadth of their musical palette, which encompasses everything from folk and pop to heavy metal and punk. | | Artist History : | | • Shortly after forming in ’98, JT began recording songs on a beat-up 4-track so they could have demo CDs to hand out to clubs, but then decided to spruce up the recordings and release them as a full album. The result was "Under Lily Skin," a 14 song CD released in November 1999 through Hapi Skratch Records. It's a triumph of lo-fi, DIY attitude, featuring great songs and production values that expand the limits of what can be done with a 4-track cassette machine and a whole lot of imagination. |

There's a lot to like about "Little Corpse," a great guitar riff that is instantly memorable, a hard rocking beat that could have come out of the 60's. The subject matter is gleefully sardonic with lots of garage atmospherics... I like everything about this song. Cleaned up and made slick it would still be interesting but because of the uncompromising sound Jupiter's Thigh makes three and a half minutes of strong pop.--Bruce Satinover, www.amp3review.com
