Ragga (also known as Raggamuffin or Dancehall) originated with youth and lower socioeconomic groups and became highly popular in the 1990s. Dance hall features rhythms played on drum machines, suggestive lyrics and abandoned movements. Deejays (or rappers) are an essential part of the dance-hall style.
