Minimalist music was first composed in the late 1960s and is based on the constant repetition of very short musical ideas. It is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the intense, complicated music of the early part of the twentieth century. The primary minimalist composers are Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and John Adams.
