Your dot com fantasy is over it is corrupted by DL Traders and Gamers

This is the standard the real unique listeners are at napster stealing the music that is powered by real advertiseng dollars.

You see nothing has changed other than there are opportunities to beat the system not to become an internet superstar.

Go Home its really over.
This place is officially dead.

Yes. Rene. All the real listeners are on Napster. Getting $18.00 CDs for nothing. Burning 150 MP3s (approximately 10 CDs) onto one CD-R for less than a buck.

Meanwhile, people that can't make a C chord are writing and recording songs using a variety of easy-to-use software.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and the young clerk was blasting Electronica through the high end speakers in the store. Showed me how he was doing his own tunes and remixes using software.

When I was a real young man? I played guitar with the Billy Vaughan Orchestra. Billy sold 100 million instrumental records in the 50's and 60's. The trumpet player toured with Dorsey. They continually said the same thing. It's all over.

It's not over at all. It's just a new world beginning.

And you don't like it.

Let's Swap Downloads

Well I think we know what people want

Free Brand name music(Napster got all the action 40 million users)

they have no interest in the rest of this shit
No one is going to get rich here unless they beg and bot.........now is that being appreciated, there is no glory in that.

So no will cough up a dime to bet on this game no more fat ipo's.
The Honeymoon is over.
Napster wins but they owe 400 million in arrears royalties.....because that is scab software and totally illegitimate.

So go home the revolution failed but the industry got gutted by Napster.(happy now)

Looks to me like Napster has become part of the industry. Just like MP3.com.

MP3.com is now Universal. Napster is now BMG.

Did you miss the news, Rene?

Their particular parts of the revolution got bought out.

Bmg agreed to loan Napster money to legitimize itself it did not agree to pay their judgement for arrears which could top 500 million

The bottom line is that BMG isn't buying a judgment.....not that I can tell.

The bottom line is that Napster and BMG are now in a joint venture to develop a subscription based file sharing business.

Everybody is responsible for legal costs prior to this agreement, it is said.

*I guess I better add that certain parties have said they don't care. They gonna sue BMG anyway.

The internet hasn't failed! It's just beginning! It will be awhile before it becomes mass media, but eventually, it will be a major media.

Instead of making wrong predictions again, look at where things are headed and get used to change. It's constant...Benjamin Disraeli 1867.

After all, you lost your bet. Your posting on the site you predicted would fail 6 months ago!

BTW, have you paid off the bet? Did you give the charity the $100 you owe them? Listensmart is still here, and, functioning..You lost!!!!!

Rene,

Do you have a clue what the yellow pages gross every year? Can you name a legitimate business that doesn't have, at least, one yellow page ad? My studio has 4, and, we're tiny! Do you have at least one phone book at your office and home? The yellow pages ARE MASS MEDIA! GET REAL!! They're like assholes, everyone has one! Distribution doesn't get more intensive then the phone company.

Napster wasn't part of your bet. If you actually had a spare hundred bucks, you could be a hero, and, pay off your bet. Your excuses only tell the world that your not only a welcher, but, you're dirt poor.

You could have ended this months ago by giving the charity a few dollars. You won't do it, because you can't do it! You don't have the cash! Who are you trying to kid?

Insult me, and call me names all you want. The longer you renege on your bet, the worse you look. You have no credibility! You're the loser, not me! I pay off my lost bets...FAST!!!

Hey, Rene. It's not over. Maybe devalued a little bit, hmmm? But it's coming back for us long term investors.

In other words, Rene. It's not over.

It's a buying opportunity!!

I just have my stuff stacked in mp3.com for the pfp.

All the other sites are superfluous

When the pay stops I'm going to a very minimal givaway.

The truths of the OMD

They are not mass media so therefore you make nothing you do not become famous because you are a board hopper.

Napster(has all of the action) if they have you(you must be famous) those people are only interested in the brand name artist
not the amateur hobbyists.

Well, Rene, when you say it that way?

Anyhow, I guess I should restate my original point.

Which is? You are basing all your evaluations of the World Wide Web on the previous way of doing business.

But the old way will go away soon. To be replaced by the new way.

You know, Rene. Like in the 60's.

"The Times They are a Changing"

and you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone.

In other words, there's something hapnin here. And you don't know what it is. Do you?

MR BAD

Yep. They are. At some point in the future convergence and broadband will come to everyone. Every TV in every trailer in the trailer park will be connected.

All this technology is developing on a logarithmic pattern. The new computer that I am buying for $1600.00 would have cost me $16,000.00 a few years ago. In a year or two? That computer will seem worthless to me. Just like the computer I bought a few years ago is now.

I can now e-mail several TV shows. And have my post shown on the air. The Monica Lewinsky story was broken on the internet. The Drudge Report. That trend will continue.

Just like you, Rene, I get most of my news from the internet now. Not TV or magazines or newspapers. Soon, everybody will. Already, most people have to use a computer just to work.

As far as your personal evaluation that most of us are dumfuck losers and will never be rich and famous? Well, you are judging us by a standard that you yourself do not meet.

If my self esteem is so low that I can only be validated by becoming rich and famous? Then, like 99.999% of the people on this planet I'm gonna be disappointed.

But that's not a problem for me, Rene.

Well, Rene. A lot of products are not aimed at mass marketing. My music projects are generally blues, jazz and classical. Nothing resembling the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync or Eminem. Plus, while I am very pretty, I am not very young.

So, myself, and others of my type are in niche markets. Not mass markets.

The internet (not a fucking joke) adds a new element to niche marketing.

Rene, you don't have to own a chain of McDonalds to be a success in the restaurant business. You can have one fine dining establishment. And not feel bad if someone tells you that McDonalds sells a lot more hamburgers than you sell filet mignon.

You may be right. My penis generally is fairly small. But when it is downloaded it can become quite large and deliver impressive results. Kind of like a zip file. Or a foot long hot dog.

As far as you stating that all the professionals hate Napster? Well, there is plenty of evidence online to refut that. ChuckD, IceT, Pete Townsend, Courtney Love, Limp Bizkit come to mind immediately.

I don't think so, deel.

Reason being that support of Napster pisses off the powers that be in the Music Biz. Like Bronfmann. Geffen. Spielberg. Hefler. And Rene.

So, it's pretty clear that recording artists that say they support Napster? Really do.

Twas the absence of a smiley that threw me.

Napster is a power, alright. Power of the People. It is being groomed to be a Power of the RIAA, as you say. At which point Napster will start charging for use and paying out royalties. But the jury is still out on that one.

Here you go, Rene. I copied this from www.napster.com.

quote:
Artists Sound Off

"[Napster] makes artists ask why they are not in control of what they are doing. Artists of any worth or strength will rise up and take control of the situation."
-- Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics

"We believe that the Internet and Napster should not be ignored by the music industry as tools to promote awareness for bands and market music."
-- Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit)

"The cool thing about Napster is that it...encourages enthusiasm for music in a way that the music industry has long forgotten to do."
-- Thom Yorke (Radiohead), 10/9/2000

"There are a lot of bigger problems in the world than whether Napster succeeds or fails...I don't think there is a malice coming out of Napster. We allowed people to tape our concerts from the beginning, and the record company questioned us about allowing that. But my thinking was that it only makes people want to buy more and increases the devotion of people who are going to listen to us."
-- Dave Matthews (Dave Matthews Band), Rolling Stone, 7/21/2000

"Napster could be a great way for people to hear your music who wouldn't have the chance to hear it on the radio."
-- Madonna, Rolling Stone, 9/28/2000

"Stealing our copyright provisions in the dead of night when no-one is looking is piracy. It's not piracy when kids swap music over the Internet using Napster. There were one billion downloads last year but music sales are way up, so how is Napster hurting the music industry? It's not. The only people who are scared of Napster are the people who have filler on their albums and are scared that if people hear more than one single they're not going to buy the album."
-- Courtney Love, NME, 6/29/2000

"We should think of (Napster) as a new kind of radio--a promotional tool that can help artists who don't have the opportunity to get their music played on mainstream radio or on MTV,"
-- Chuck D, New York Times, 4/30/2000

"Most people I know who listen to a lot of MP3s will download a lot of different songs. And if they like the song, they'll go out and buy the album. The record company doesn't want me to say this, but out of the millions of MP3 files that are out there, if someone chooses to download one of my songs or an album of mine, I'm very flattered."
-- Moby, Macaddict.com

"The Edge is very pro-Napster, actually," Bono says. "He thinks that as long as people are using their computers for music, and not playing mindless games, that's good. My feeling," he adds, "is that it's cool for people to share our music -- as long as no one is making money from the process. We tell people who come to our concerts that they can tape the shows if they want. I think it's cool that people are so passionate about our music -- especially about this new album, quite honestly."
-- Bono on The Edge (U2), Billboard.com, 9/29/2000

"It is a good way to promote your music, but copyright and things of that sort are something that will have to be worked out and they will be worked out. I remember when they didn't want you to have a VCR, but they worked it out and I think for the best. Smart people always get together and work it out."
-- B.B. King, Yahoo Entertainment News, 9/13/2000

"We have just finished a tour, we played in Barcelona, the next day the entire performance was up on Napster and three weeks later when we got to play in Israel the audience knew the words to all the new songs and it was wonderful. Digital music is just one of many things that contribute to an artist getting their message across and of course it is going to change record companies are going to have to embrace it and change with it and find different ways of getting revenue, maybe using Napster as a business model for their own on-line thing."
-- Colin Greenwood (Radiohead), NME, 9/28/2000

"We're not afraid of the Internet. We think it's a very cool way to reach our fans. If a band sells 12 million albums, what are we supposed to say? Oh, maybe we could have sold 13 million if we had just been Internet Nazis. Frankly, at a certain point, you have to say. Hey, let the people have the music."
-- Dexter Holland (Offspring), Inside.com, 9/15/2000

"I think it's a good idea because it's people trading music. It has nothing to do with industry or finance, it's just people that want music and there's nothing wrong with that. It's the same as someone turning on the f****** radio, it's the same as someone putting a cassette in a cassette deck when the BBC plays a special radio session. I don't think it's a crime, it's been going on for years. It's the same as people making tapes for each other. The industry is more threatened by it because it's the worldwide web and it's a broader scope of trading, but I don't think it's such a f******* horrible thing. The first thing we should do is get all the f****** millionaires to shut their mouths, stop bitching about the 25 cents a time they're losing."
-- Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), dotmusic.com, 9/15/2000

"I can't believe Napster might be shut down. Music is for everybody. When people get excited about it, whether from hearing it on the radio or borrowing a record from a friend, or accessing it through Napster, they buy records and come out to shows."
-- Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five), Entertainment Weekly, 8/11/2000

"What record companies don't really understand is that Napster is just one illustration of the growing frustration over how much the record companies control what music people get 2 hear < over how the air waves, record labels and record stores, which r now all part of this 'system' that recording companies have pretty much succeeded in establishing, r becoming increasingly dominated by musical "products" 2 the detriment of real music. Y should the record company have such control over how he, the music lover, wants 2 xperience the music?... >From the point of view of the real music lover, what's currently going on can only b viewed as an xciting new development in the history of music. And, 4tunately 4 him, there does not seem 2 b anything the old record companies can do about preventing this evolution from happening."
-- Prince, NPGonlineLTD.com

"The amount of time companies spend stressing about getting a record on radio, you would think that the idea of some big, global listening post would make perfect sense. And while enough people enjoy the social interaction of going into a record shop and buying something to keep and cherish, I don't see why we can't all live in one big happy music-sharing world."
-- Damian Harris (owner of SKINT) (Fatboy Slim's label), NME, 9/8/2000
