No surprises there... he's been saying that all along: mp3.com is complimentary to the music biz and my.mp3.com will increase CD sales - both statements are in his announcement of my.mp3.com. And, of course, his prime concern is for the profits of mp3.com - that's his job. Dr O ------------------ IP: Logged |

But that's not what he was saying when I joined up. Back then, the site was full of all kinds of propaganda about how bad the major labels were and about how mp3.com was going to free the music industry from their horrible grip. Now, suddenly, he has become their friend? It was, of course, all just lies. MR has never cared about anything but $$$. MP3.com is just another version of Animal Farm. I wonder if the RIAA, content that their content has been removed, is just playing a stall game with mp3.com until they see what the Judge awards in damages. ------------------ Davey Boy Crocky's Solo Project IP: Logged |

MP3c does look kinda like Animal Farm sometimes, doesn't it. I guess I never expected them to be anything other than a music business so I'm not particularly disappointed. I still think MP3c will (mostly) win at the Supreme Court level. RIAA needs to make a deal while they're on top. Dr O ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: Number one lie: Freely downloadable music will sell music CDs. DAM CD program is a damn lie, yet we got artists all over the place who believe this lie. Number one truth: Freely downloadable music generates clicks and ad revenues. Due to the "royalty free" clause at MP3.com, MR was able to bypass copyrights of the artists. including licensing fees. And, the artists keep eating the lies or as Davey Boy put it "propaganda" like its gourmet food. Yum, yum There is a sucker born every minute. St. Cheez

As Davey Boy said MP3.com did put out the propaganda and its still works to this day. ![]() I wish artists would start to realize that a music site which offers free downloadable music IS NOT a publisher. Its a contradiction and conflict all rolled up in one. I can see how ad earning could help to promote artists on a site. The problem with MP3.com was that they used the money to promote MP3.com! Number two lie: Most or all artists believed that MP3.com really wanted to promote them. They promoted artists which they felt their targeted audience, the kids, would appreciate. And, its not like MP3.com was trying to hide this fact, but artists refused to accept the truth and preferred the lie. LS at the moment is a "catelogue" music site which offers free downloadable music. They still have the original contract which includes the "royalty free" clause just like MP3.com in order to by-pass the copyright of artists. For LS to show good faith, they should be offering money upfront to prove to the artists that they really will try to promote their music as a so-called "publisher" should. Of course, the "royalty free" would have to go. Maybe that is why artists preferred uploading their music... to avoid being rejected by the so-called "publisher"; well, when the publisher is paying upfront, rejection can be a real issue here. Seems like I answered my own question why things are the way they are... Keep the faith, guys, St. Cheez ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: funny.. i was watching a news brief on the tube about how the future of tape rentals is going to be a tough row to hoe. my prediction is that soon we will see actors and directors on strike (musicians never go on strike) because of programs like napster that allow films to be swapped just like mp3's. let the hollywood money get abused by something like napster and then you'll see heads rolling. deel ------------------ IP: Logged |

Doc. No surprises is right. He's NEVER been about what HE said all along that he was. That's why I post it, everything he does goes against everything he said when he started this whole thing. That's how he suckered everyone in at first. And that's how he built his thing. And that's why I'm pissed. And not seeing that is the first sign of the onset of acute Hamsteritis, a potentially fatal but always embarrassing condition that leads to bad driving, inability to operate simple machinery, and the need to watch Springer reruns........as well as frequent trips to the recreation center at the trailer park to avail oneself of the beer vending machine with the warm Bud in it. Watch Out!!!! This is a real condition with real handicaps!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

A lot of people hate me. They say it's because of my shitty way of comunicating. I say that's a load of whiny crap. People just don't want to hear what makes them uncomfortable. I don't deliver candy & flowers. Since I am already hated by so many, it is easier for me now more that ever to speak my mind. Most so-called artists are wankers with shit they try to pass off as music that stinks. Most so-called artists are cretins. Mp3.con built an empire on this concept. There is no hope of changing that situation. The supply never runs out. I am no longer going to fight mp3.con head on. I see that is is useless. The only people that can sink the mp3.con ship is the captain and the crew. The tiny holes that anyone has poked in that ship have been quickly repaired by the lackeys. I am no longer going to waste time and energy on it. We have a new ship that is trying to launch and already the very same problems are present. No artist unity. Everyday I am ready to quit the entire Net thing. The next day I am back with new hope that I can make a difference. Then I realize that I am just mentally jacking off. I am deluding myself just as I accuse others of doing. I can start shit and get attention more than most people but at the end of everyday I feel defeated. Man, I am growing weary of losing. Most here are ready to sign the contract, any contract. They don't want to push for changes, Hell they don't even know what changes could be pushed for. Most don't understand jack shit about this Contract. They have admitted as much. Their attitude It doesn't get better. It gets more absurd and pathetic. I shake my head and I want to walk away. ------------------ IP: Logged |
