Press Release 1

Dutch techno artist Stefan Koopmanschap has decided to start an electronic record label. The label is to be called Wide Area Network records (WAN-records). The label is set up to promote mainly small independant electronic artists.

As to the reason why he wants to start the label, Stefan is very clear: "I see a lot of virtual labels coming in the Internet music world, but those labels only aim for promotion. My purpose is to make official releases, just like any other label. At first, this will be 'just' DAM-CD's or things like that, and CD-R's. If it starts running in a good way, as I hope it will, greater investments may be possible, and 'real' CD-releases and/or vinyl releases may be possible."

For the moment, Stefan will not be signing up too many artists. "I have to build this thing from the ground. This means I can't sign up every artist I would like to sign up. I can not take risks on artists of which I don't know for sure if it will pay back any investment I make. When things start going well, if they ever will, I will be able to take greater risks with smaller artists. I really intend to give starting artists a break, and a deal, if possible. But for the moment, I really have to select very carefully in who I sign up."
For the moment, Stefan does not have any artists signed up. "I have been playing with the idea of a 'real' label for quite some time now. Several ideas have come to mind, and some of them have been thrown away immediately or after giving them some thought. I now think I have a solid plan for the label, which I will be working out. I plan to sign my first artist before or in the beginning of this summer.

Stefan can need help. "Starting a label isn't done in a few minutes with an idea, a website and things like that. The label will start out inofficial, but if things go well, I will have to set up an official company and register the company and the company name. Also, then I will have to arrange for a performing rights organisation to protect the releases and that sort of things. For the moment, I mainly need people that can think with me and help me with setting up the bfoundation for the label. I can't promise any revenues for these people, only my eternal thanks.

Contacting Stefan / WAN-records is possible. If you want to contact him, send an email to Stefan on the following emailadress: review4u@crosswinds.net . "When the website is ready, or maybe even sooner, I will set up another account on crosswinds, especially for WAN. For the moment, this will have to do. I won't look professional right away, things have to grow. I hope to have enough money for a domain name (.net, Stefan doesn't believe in .com domain names) in the near future, so things will look a little bit more professional."

When things start going well, if they ever will,

To be very honest, I'd make some changes in that press release. It doesn't sound very confident. Just some well-meant advice!

Best,

Loek
