More news from your roving OMD roamer. MP3.com wants to be the biggest. They want ALL the music. They don't want to promote it, they just want the end user to have access to all of the music in the world be it indie stuff or the majors. They want to level the playing field between the majors and the indies: and if you look at it that way it is working to some extent, because 303 Infinity (and most people would say who the hell is that) who is number 1 in the top 40 has made $15862.08 This quarter, $3,572.96 of which was earned in the first 6 days of this month alone. So, in that aspect, the guy is making almost more money that a major right now and he is not even on a label. This is just how it was explained to me and it is not an endorsement of any kind. I don't know how much of this stuff I'm buyin yet, and there are a few little details that didn't gibe so that is why I'm looking at it again today. Paradise confirmed by suspicion that Michael Robertson actually wanted the Beam-it thing to come to litigation. That is the express purpose of why he created it. Apparently, MyMp3.com is an entity within itself and mp3.com will not go under if everyting goes south. But Paradise seems positive that eventually they will win this thing, like the cassette tape won, like VCR's won, like Radio won. I THINK there are a few different elements to this than with those other cases, but we'll hafta see how the thing progresses. This company is willing to do anything to increase it's traffic. That is why they stuck with the unpopular decision to keep the Yahoo main page interface, because the numbers of visits by people using dialups increased by a good percentage. That is why they removed images off of almost everywhere but the band pages- They wanted the pages to load fast. Now this posting of PFP is more of the "money where our mouth is" stuff- and it is also an experiment, they think that it will increase overall page hits, and they are not going to do away with it unless they see that it is not increasing page hits. According to Dice, it is working, so they are not inclined to remove the feature even though half of the bloody world is screaming for it's removal. It means more pages hits for them as well, and THAT makes them MONEY. There was a lot more stuff that I talked to him about and as I digest it I'll report it to you in detail. I still hate pfp postings - I don't like the way these changes were foisted on the artists - I don't like the way the place changed from an indie oriented site to what it is now - I don't like to ay the place grew too fast, from the 513 artists that were on the site when I joined to the amount that is on there today (whether it be an actual 65,000 or a more realistic 10 to 20 thousand) All though it Paradise beamed about how BIG MP3.com has become, and hey, power to the place, power to the dude. But I like smaller. I liked Amp3 because I was able to interact with a smaller community, I don't care that the place was penny ante, I liked it. I like this place because I am able to interact with just about everyone here, except for the bomb-and-run flamers. I like it here because I can go to an artists page and listen to tunes and If I like it I can write up a quick review. But I'm still keepin a few things over at MP3.com, but I am removing my social security number from my accounts. OK live from Slow Death California, this has been the Ramb er, The weAponX report. Film at 11 I hope this answers a few of your questions. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thank you. It sounds like MP3.com feels they have continued to exist by making these unpopular decisions and sticking with them, but wouldn't they still be in business anyway? I don't beleive that without the Yahoo-look that they would have been crushed by the competition heh heh heh. I don't see the pay-for-play display is any good either, but I guess it does generate traffic from artists. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yes I am a radical and a rabble rouser but I also believe in compromise if it is justified. Sorry to say but I know that there will be no Strike/Boycot. I have seen the stats and it won't happen. Perhaps the trheat of one will move mp3.con a bit closer to a workable solution, one that makes neiter side jump with joy but workable. Contrary to pop opinion, I am not trying to destroy mp3.con. I am making a. prolly futile, attempt at bringing about some parity betweeen the Artists & the OMDs. This is a long term goal and I will keep working towards it. Secret: The dramatics are designed to bring attention to the issues. People are so easily bored with the mundane details. Unfortunately, it's these very details that usually screw them over. ------------------ IP: Logged |

It seems that Paradise does view me as some sort of a threat to mp3.con. He has been publicly trying to discredit me in every way he can. He did retract his falsehoohds but I fucked up and didn't copy it off. Now I can' t find it again. Paradise And to think Phil Frazier, just before you were removed as a MP3.com Moderator, you wanted MP3.com to weed out artists who didn't get much traffic, or (How did you say it?) had no talent. In fact you wanted to be the guy who did the weeding. Shortly after that, the artists you were managing fired you! Yep, you are a real artists advocate Phil! Phil, it's amazing how you portray yourself as some kind of self appointed savior for artists now. I found a little blast from the past on my hardrive from back in the days when you were a MP3.com moderator: quote:
Paradise. You are completely incorrect. Number one I was NOT fired as "Ask the Manager", a forum I asked Mike R. to let me try out. I was never an "official" Moderator either. It was decided to try other forums. Michelle emailed That bands fired me is a BLATANT MOTHER FUCKIN' LIE!!!. Marc Pattison tried to fire me but we are still under Contract. Big Sky was fired by ME. Sutrobath was fired by ME.I have documented proof of it. Sutrobath are If you ever print this Lie on a public BB board again I will SUE(YOU) & ( MP3.CON). YOU READ ME ? In fact, I am going to take this up with higher ups than you on Monday. I am sick and tired of the falsehoods and slander from mp3.con. Now, you can run to your boss and explain yourself. I expect a public retraction of your lies, Paradise. ------------------ IP: Logged |
